Christmas Packaging Trends 2018

The concept of Christmas has been around all of our lives. So much so that throughout our lifetime, whether you have realised it or not, Christmas packaging trends have developed substantially.

We are all about staying current and future proof with everything that we do, which is why we have chosen to focus on 2018 to ensure that your Christmas packaging is current with the times, as well as looking into the future to make sure that you and your business aren’t left behind.

What Works For You?

Although there are several packaging trends out there, it is important to concentrate on a trend that works for you and your business. There are many buzz words that appear to be on the scene this year when it comes to Christmas packaging. We have identified a few to give you a head start, now that we are less than a month away from Christmas Day!

Businesses have more to think about at Christmas as you prepare for this busy time ahead. That is why we have identifed the key Christmas packaging trends for you, so that you don’t have to.

Here are 4 Christmas packaging trends for 2018…

1)   Minimalistic

‘Less is more’ seems to be a popular term throughout different industries this year and it has appeared to creep into the packaging industry also. What once may have been seen as a boring box can now be described as ‘simplistic’ and ‘minimalistic’. When designing your packaging for Christmas, think about whether this trend would suit the style of your company and what you offer your customers.

2)   Holographic Designs

2018 has seen the popularity of unicorns and holographic designs. Marble effects have been applied to just about everything, so why stop at packaging designs? To take it one step further, you could combine the Christmas colours with a holographic pattern. “Out there” designs seem to be on trend, as well as your more traditional designs of course. It is important to decide which style of design would best suit your products. You are aiming for your packaging to be an extension of your company, not a distraction.

3)   Personalisation

Personalisation was predicted to be a big trend at the start of the year and it has most definitely matched up to its expectations. By adding personalisation to anything, but especially packaging at Christmas when it is a time for making others feel special, it really enables you to show that you have gone one step further with showing that you care.

4)   Custom Shapes

Custom shapes, having a fresh approach to design and thinking outside the box when it comes to packaging allows your presentation to go up a level. It won’t go unnoticed by your customers, especially at this festive time where there is no shortage of packages. With custom shapes being such a big buzz word. You have to ask yourself, is my business providing custom shapes to our customer? If the answer is “no” then you may find that you should in order to stand out from your competitors. We certainly are here, which means that we can help you to do the same. Check out our custom box calculator today to start building your custom box.

Now that we have looked back, we think it is equally important to look forward with the year coming to a close and explore what to keep your eye out for in 2019.

Here are 3 packaging trends for 2019…after all they say things come in threes….

1)   Creativity

We think there will be an increase in creativity across the industry with packaging shapes, sizes and designs. As mentioned earlier on in this blog, designs have become “out there” with no limits throughout 2018 and we believe it will continue to move this way into 2019.

2)   Consumer Footprint

As we have seen a major increase in marketing materials and advertisements, as well as documentaries based around our carbon footprint and recycling, we believe this will increase further during 2019. Companies will continue to finetune their recycling efforts. Sustainability is a subject we are extremely passionate about and although we put a smile on companies faces regularly with our packaging solutions, we are conscious for this to avoid then having a negative impact on the planet. Find out more about our sustainability practices here.

3)   Experience

Experiential marketing has really come into its own in the past few years. Once upon a time, the product itself was used for differentiation in the market. Nowadays, packaging is seen as an equal contender, if not more so than the product it is holding and protecting. The experience starts from the moment the customer holds the packaging in their hands, not just the product and we help you to make this a reality.
