In the context of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), a customer
category refers to the type of end-user or recipient a business supplies its products or
packaging to. This classification helps determine how a business’s obligations under EPR are
calculated.
Small Producer
You qualify as a Small Producer if your business has an annual turnover between £1
million and £2 million and handles between 25 and 50 tonnes
of packaging per year.
Registered Large Producer
You qualify as a Large Producer if your business has an annual turnover of over £2
million and handles more than 50 tonnes
of packaging per year. You are required to register for EPR reporting.
Brand Owners
You are a Brand Owner if you manufacture goods and sell them under your own brand
name — or if someone else applies your brand to products
with your permission.
Charity
You are a Charity if you are a
registered charitable organisation.
Business to Business (B2B)
You operate as B2B if your business sells goods or packaging directly to other businesses,
and the packaging is not likely to end up in household waste (e.g. used in offices,
factories, or industrial settings)
